When you first hear about the combination of wood and PVC, it might be a bit confusing—how can there be both wood and PVC? This type of door has been popular in China for nearly 20 years and in Europe for over 10 years, and it started becoming popular in the United States in 2023. This article will elaborate on what a wooden PVC door is, as well as the use cases and advantages of this type of door.

Structure of the wood PVC door
The door is made of MDF on both sides, with a PVC veneer on the surface. The interior filling material can vary, with options ranked from high to low cost including solid wood blocks, particleboard, and honeycomb board. The door frame is made of MDF + fir, finished in the same way as the door leaf, covered with PVC veneer.
Color of the wooden door
There are thousands of color options for this type of door, mainly divided into regular PVC veneer and high-grade PVC veneer.
Regular PVC veneer: Thinner and mostly smooth on the surface.
High-grade PVC veneer: Thicker than regular PVC veneer, with a wood grain effect on the surface and a grainy texture, similar to real wood veneer.
Price: For a set of wooden doors, the high-grade PVC veneer is generally $3-5 more expensive than the regular PVC veneer.
Additionally, the surface of the wooden door can also display two colors, made from two different types of PVC veneers stitched together. This makes it more distinctive, but also more expensive.
Design of the wooden door
First, we use a CNC machine to carve designs into the MDF according to the specifications, and then the PVC veneer is applied over the MDF using a high-pressure vacuum, meaning theoretically, any design that can be carved by the CNC machine can be produced.
Cost analysis
This type of door is much cheaper than painted doors, sometimes nearly half the price.
Water resistance
This is also one of the advantages of this type of door, as the surface is covered with PVC veneer, providing some water resistance.
